Our Origin

Our founder, Amdiya Abdul-Latiff, first encountered the devastating reality of period poverty during her national service as a teacher posted to a rural community in Ghana. She watched young girls miss school, fall behind and quietly drop out not because they lacked ambition, but because they lacked something as basic as a sanitary pad.

She saw girls using socks, newspapers and dirty rags. She heard stories of young women exchanging sex for pads in the poorest areas. She witnessed the ripple effect: girls who missed school fell behind, lost confidence, and eventually stopped coming altogether. Refusing to accept this as normal, Amdiya founded Eco-Me Africa to turn empathy into action creating a sustainable, scalable solution that restores dignity, keeps girls in school, and builds economic opportunity for the communities she loves.

“No girl should have to choose between her education and her dignity. That was the moment I knew I had to act.”
